TAMWORTH - from Country Music Capital to Arson Capital of Australia

It's a bit like Peter Weir's seminal, extremely anti-social film  The Cars that Ate Paris.
( Mostly shot in Sofala, the movie (Movie Trailer)movie trailerfeatures John Meillon and Max Gillies and was shot mainly in gold discovery town Sofala )

The dark dingy  SECRET  OF  TAMWORTH (pop.50,000)  is that NOBODY wants to know about galloping out-of-control anti-social behaviour. After all, West Tamworth is a depressed area. The large multistoried bureaucracy of Tamworth Regional Council,  the CBD-bound 'keystone cops', Churches and other stakeholders couldn't care less about the waste of humanity as long as it occurs at the periphery of the city. As long as the smart homes of the wealthy in the North and East don't go up in smoke and as long as Tamworth retains its national Dineylandish title of Country Music Festival, then all is well.

The police only laugh at concerns expressed by the public and also the newspaper (Northern Daily Leader). As long as their comfortable nests are feathered, they will laugh like hyenas. After all, the shoplifting, violence, break-ins, arson, etc concern mainly poor, Housing Commission scum. When the crime rate explodes into the affluent areas and newer subdivisions, the local constabulary may do something meaningful. Pot luck!

A highway patrol officer was gunned down  in Lorraine Street in the highly troubled area of Coledale. It was  March 2012. He is DAVID RIXON. The question is, DID HE DIE IN VAIN? What has happened since? Any sign of a new police station outside Tamworth CBD, say South Tamworth? i think not.

The Department  of Housing is LOSING millions as arson becomes widespread. Shells of homes are left standing for years, eg Kenny Drive in Coledale has FOUR gutted houses. Vacant blocks are common. If one comes from anywhere in theTamworth region, one will be repulsed by the very name of COLEDALE. When Housing NSW held an auction of surplus land lately, NO BUYERS expressed interest!

Yes, there are inexpensive houses available for sale - mostly ex-government stock. But let buyers beware!! The neighbours remain strangers, the youth are from broken and single-parent 'families', aborigines often refuse to talk with 'whites', the youth are often out of control and emulate their remote drug-addicted parents, Unruly behaviour is common, such as lighting fireworks at midnight to indicate that a new batch of drugs has arrived in the locality. If the police are notified, don't expect them to take at least 30 minutes to arrive in the 'frontier'.

DO NOT CONSIDER LIVING IN OR RENTING WEST TAMWORTH/COLEDALE/SOUTH TAMWORTH REAL ESTATE.
 - Even if free housing is offered!!

Houses are often set alight by tenants after receiving eviction notices from NSW Housing. Cars, motorcycles and trail bikes are all candidates for arson. Youth jump into backyards to make noise, smash car and  windows and fences and to terrorise residents. Dogs are poisoned. There are stories of meat thrown over the fence embedded with glass fragments - resulting in the dying animal spewing out blood.
sometimes sadly with pieces of glass hidden in meat.with glass. One very sad story concerns a low-life neighbour (with children). The parents had no more use for their young loyal German Shepherd. The dog became just another expense. It was chained up and then then deliberately run over several times with the family car. The body lay FOR WEEKS in their driveway.
